Our History
The National Society of Black Engineers was founded in 1975 by a group of engineering students at Perdue University now known as the "Chicago Six." NSBE's full history can be found on the national website. The Austin Alumni Chapter was founded in 1990
Our Mission
NSBE Mission: To increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.

Chapter Programs
Tutorial Program in Math and Sciences
During the school year, members are encouraged to tutor students in area NSBE Jr. Chapters. Established in 1991.
Project FreshStart
An outreach program that targets youth, grades 6 - 12, in order to expose them to a FreshStart in developing learning skills in math, science, and increased exposure to the history of people of color, and self awareness. Established in 1992.
Mentoring Program:
During the school year, members are encouraged to participate as mentors with our NSBE student counterparts.
Annual Fundraising Events:
- Bowling Tournament
- Basketball Tournament
- Scholarship & Awards Banquet
(Funds raised from these events are used in support of the organization's commitment to scholastic achievement through scholarships.)
